Mastering vocabulary: French – 2024 specification
Mastering vocabulary – French offers research and evidence-based approaches to accelerating vocabulary acquisition for KS3–4 students.
It includes differentiated PowerPoints, collaborative learning activities and photocopiable resources to support comprehension skills for students in years 9, 10 and 11.
The resources draw on:
- cognitive research into memorisation
- examiners’ reports from past reading and listening papers
- vocabulary lists from the 2024 AQA French specification
- best classroom practice by experienced teachers.
This pack covers approaches to learning and includes vocabulary starters, games and revision, as well as exam strategies. It has been updated for the AQA 2024 Foundation tier and Higher tier French vocabulary lists.
Updates for the 2024 AQA GCSE French specification
All the words and phrases in the updated pack can be found in AQA’s vocabulary lists for the 2024 French specification. Examples of vocabulary difficulties from examiners’ reports are taken from the 2016 specification as at the time of writing no reports were available for the 2024 spec; however, they have been updated to include only words that feature in the 2024 vocabulary lists.
The resources in this pack have been differentiated into three levels: bronze, silver and gold. Bronze broadly corresponds to upper key stage 3 and is based on the Foundation tier vocabulary list, while silver uses more challenging words from the Foundation list, and gold features words from the Higher list (and some of the most challenging Foundation words).
