How to use the chatterbox template

The chatterbox or fortune teller can be a versatile tool for teachers and students across all key stages.

For KS2, it can be a fun and interactive way to learn and review topics. For example, a chatterbox can help children review times tables, vocabulary words, or historical facts. Children can take turns using the chatterbox, asking and answering questions.

For KS3, a chatterbox can be used as a study tool. The interactive nature of the chatterbox makes it a more engaging method of revision than simply reading notes.

For KS4, the chatterbox can be used as a conversation starter for more complex topics. For instance, it could contain thought-provoking questions about literature, debate topics, or ethical dilemmas in science. This can help stimulate class discussion and critical thinking.

Remember, the key to effectively using a chatterbox is to ensure that the questions and answers are relevant to the topic of study and are challenging enough to engage students.

How to make a chatterbox

Start by writing questions and answers on the chatterbox template. Make sure to match the answer to the correct question number.

Now, cut out, fold and create your chatterbox:

1. Cut out the large outer square.

2. Fold the template in half diagonally, open it back out, and then fold it in half diagonally the other way.

3. Open it back out again. You should have two creases forming an X.

4. Fold each corner of the paper into the centre of the X.

5. Flip the paper over to the other side.

6. Again, fold each corner into the centre.

7. Fold the square in half, open it out, rotate it 90 degrees, and fold it in half the other way.

8. You should now be able to open and close the chatterbox by pushing the corners in and out.

Once it's folded, you can use the chatterbox. Ask someone to choose a number. Open and close the chatterbox that number of times. Then, ask them to choose another number. Open the flap with that number and ask them the question. Let them answer, then reveal the written answer to see if they are correct.

Enjoy using your chatterbox as a fun and engaging conversation starter or revision tool!
